QUESTIONS FROM MR SETO TO THINK ABOUT:

1. Is gambling morally wrong?

2. What are the reasons why gambling is often discouraged in society?

3. Who are the main gainers in the gambling industry? Who suffer most? Who will get richer through gambling - the rich or the poor?

4. Gambling often leads to addiction. Do you agree?

Comments:
1. Is gambling morally wrong? To me, small-scale gambling is not morally wrong. Even us as teenagers involve in certain extent of gamble. Nowadays, the public has many and easy access to legal gambling, things like 4-digits, TOTO, SCORE!, STRIKE! and even Magnum from the neighbour country. Gambling has become part of the citizens' life, its has been inculcated that 'small bet stimulates life'. Thus i think that it is not morally wrong.

However large-scale gambling with high stakes has become more than just a mere game of betting. It involves so many parties, high stakes and risks. Once moment of fool and jolly could possibly destroy the family to nothing.

Now with the opening of the IR and two casinos, heavy-gamblers would stray around involving in their foolish antics, carrying the risk of losing away their entire fortune or wealth. Of course, illegal tontines and loansharks will trive as people who lost money will come after them for more loans. This pushes the illegal activites up a notch, and more crimes would occur.

Now who can say that gambling is not morally wrong?

2. What are the reasons why gambling is often discouraged in society? As discussed, large-scale gambling often lead to downfall and bankruptcy. However a portion of small-scale gamblers will turn into these heavy gamblers eventually. Thus many more undesired society problems will arise. Suicides, thefts or even kidnap may happen.

With some small wins, gamblers urge to place heavier bets. Sadly, heavier bets does not equal to higher winnings, instead one will have to fork out more money to continue their losing streak (since they are addicted, they just can not stop).

Therefore these gamblers are stuck in this vicious cycle, they could not help but continue to fall deeper as they need illegal loans to maintain their well being and of course their bets. They too hope for a huge win to recoup all their losses.

Thus this cycle never stop, and as long as it continues, there bounds to be societal problems.

2. What are the reasons why gambling is often discouraged in society?

First of all gambling can lead to downfall and bankruptcy. Small-scale gamblers' greed grew, urges to place heavier bets. However heavier bets does not equal to higher winnings.

The vicious cycle disallow the gamblers to recoup all their losses which they are dying hopeing for. More illegal loans, more societal problems and crimes like sucides, theft and kidnap may happen.

Why gambling is morally wrong?

First and formost the income or rather the winnnings comes from another persons lost. Therefore when a person looses money it indirectly affects his family in terms of fianancial and emotional reasons. Moreover gambling involves greed materialism and discontent. It causes people to adopt the reckless and irresponsible thinking of quick and easy cash.
